We lost what could not be disputed as a popular entertainer. Here at RUHtF, we'll post our tribute as only we now how...with John Oswald's re-imagining of "Bad" as "Dab". Oswald trades in an art he calls Plunderphonic, the practice of taking pop song, mixing them up, cutting them up, slowing them up and speeding them down and Making them only slightly recognizable to their legitimate "parent(s)" song(s). he can take three recognizable drumbeats from a song and make a five-minute song of those. Just enough to know where it came from, but drastically different to enjoy it in a different light. In "Dab", he takes Michael Jackson's "Bad" and chops it up, spins it around, speeds and slows it, and reverses it... walking on a very fine copyright tight rope. It's a really great album and good luck finding it on CD...however some of his stuff is downloadable here
I edited the picture, because it contains a graphic some would consider "vulgar", and RUHtF is a "family" site...one that you would send your mother to, if she was cool (i've sent my mother).
This is not for the faint of ear...so if you need your music straight, put on Michael.
If you like it, dig further on John Oswald. You'll like his re-imagining of "Hello, I Love You" as '"O'Hell", Zeppelin in the song "Power", James Brown with "Brown" and every recorded James Brown yelp in one 3 minute 57 song, Metallica mixed with Queen in "2net"...you get the idea...get thee to Plunderphonics to hear what I am talking about
This is the inaugural edition of a feature on RUHtF i'm lovingly calling "Jonesy's iPod". Now that the Southern California airwaves are desolate once again with the shutting down on Indie 103.1 (the terrestrial version), I have decided it's time to start posting bits and pieces I have recorded. I have what I consider to be the largest collection of Jonesy's Jukebox shows. I'm going through them...a tdious task, but i'm cataloging all the special guests he's had, and will be posting some select shows, interviews, covers, and whistles that I find.
This will be a constant work in progress.
Here's the first..the great interview he did with Paul McCartney. There's a minor technical glitch in the middle, but they pick up on the other end of the track they play.
In the 90's, my brother and I had a radio show called The Bro Show. We had some great guests come up to the studio and play. Here's The legendary Cadillac Tramps. They are playing tomorrow night in Fullerton for free at the Slide Bar. I suggest you go if you can.
I haven't seen/heard this anywhere, which is surprising because it was streamed online, and anyone with a passing knowledge of how to work a computer could have recorded it. I had vision and captured it..sadly, I did so with my FM transmitter and about 3 songs sound REALLY crappy because of poor reception. I cut those out of this stream. Enjoy!
This is pretty cool...Henry Rollins doing a "Spoken Word Unplugged"...ON MTV. Yeah, it's seems "biting the hand that feeds"...but whatever. It's still cool and took balls to do.
SORRY...SOMETHING IS AWRY WITH THE MP3 EMBEDDER..SO NO AUDIO FILES WILL BE ABLE TO BE STREAMED...UNTIL THIS THIS FIGURED OUT.
UPDATE: I DID FIGURE THINGS OUT AND MUST NOW CHANGE CODE IN EACH MP3. IF THERE IS SOMETHING YOU WANT NOW, EMAIL AND I WILL GET ON IT. OTHERWISE, IT WILL TAKE A WHILE.
