In case you couldn't be there: Daniel Lanois @ Fingerprints 12-7-14

Daniel Lanois played Fingerprints in Long Beach and ruhtf was there to capture it. There were a few technical glitches with camera stops, but I got most of it.

From Fingerprints' website:

Daniel Lanois is one of the most influential record producers of the modern era: the man who brought Bob Dylan back; longtime collaborator with Brian Eno, soundsculpting a series of mammoth releases for U2; and producer of breakthrough late-career albums by Willie Nelson and Emmylou Harris. But before all that, Daniel Lanois was an experimental musician, recording his unique guitar voicings for groundbreaking albums with guys like Brian Eno and Jon Hassell, along the way helping to invent a genre called ambient music. What is often lost in the wild success of his production career is Lanois’ musical life at the edge, which is where Flesh and Machine, his new album on ANTI-, comes full circle. A wildly ambitious, diverse exploration of modern sonics, Flesh and Machine careens from the huge guitar skronk of “The End” to the haunted landscapes of “Iceland.” But perhaps for the first time, Lanois’ new album highlights the strange parallel evolution that has taken place in Daniel’s music; alongside the developments in IDM that launched from the same 70s avante-intrumental roots as Eno and company, Lanois’ music has developed a rhythmic complexity heard in the most adventurous music by Autechre or Matmos. Only for Lanois, nothing is digital. Dense, visceral music that combines the primitive stomach-pounding volume of rock with the heartbreaking found sonics of early electronic music, Flesh and Machine reminds us that we are bodies in a mechanized world, and that in the midst of our digital noise we must not forget to breathe.

Gary Numan at the Observatory

If you need proof of why you need to see Gary Numan or if you need proof why you MUST buy a Blue Microphone Mikey Digital, do nothing else but check out thee two rexordings. The first is opener Kittie covering Depeche Mode, and the second is Gary Numan's ear-bleedingly loud performance captured in full on my iPhone 5 with the wonderful Blue Microphone Mikey Digital. I also used a cool app, Recorder Plus to capture it. Recorder Pro used to be my go to app, but it doesn't recognize the lightning port. Whereas most recordings would sound muddy, the on board condenser mic of the Mikey makes this very listenable. Enjoy!

Americanarama 2013: Dylan, Wilco, My Morning Jacket, Jackson Browne, and Nancy Sinatra

This was a mixed bag with blistering performances from My Morning Jacket and Wilco, surprising test appearances from Jackson Browne and Nancy Sinatra, and a hit-and-miss performance from mostly inaudible headliner Bob Dylan. So, essentially, you get the good with the Bob

Chris Issak at the Hyatt Regency August 2013

Us and about 250 of our closest...uh...fellow concertgoers were treated to a VERY intimate performances with one of the greatest songwriters, singers, performers, and all out showman of his generation...Chris Issak. I captured the show, and you can truly experience the most REALISTIC live, recorded concert experience. From the back row, attempting to hear Mr. Issak above the din of the newport beach importerati. Basically, directly behind us was the bar, with all the rich and privileged drinking and hooking up, talking loudly, doing EVERYTHING but listening to the music. Plus, being characteristically rude. The music, however, more than made up for it...if you can hear it:

Flaming Lips at OC Fair 2013

This is the Flaming Lips show at the Orange County fair. Anyone who has been to a Flaming Lips show knows that any show is the most exuberant experience you will have. This show was no exception. The tour has been a bit toned down, but in Lips terms, that just means there were no balloons or beach balls. Everything else was in presence, including an abundance of good vibes. For you, I have captured the concert in all its glory. Somewhere in the middle of the show, they did a cover of Devo's "Gates of Steel" which I've isolated for those who are impatient. For all the rest, if you are listening to this in the office, for the full Lips experience, have one of your office mates continually flip the lights on and off while your other office mates throw whatever is in the shredder receptacle into the air... And heck… If you have a cool boss, light the trash and let the smoke fill the room.
